The information provided here is not intended to replace a complete inspection of the carbon fiber mast and spars as found in the J70 sailboat. This information is solely intended to share obvious damage when visually inspected. As little guidance is available yet within the sailing community as carbon fiber spars relatively new on sailboats.

Delaminated carbon fiber flanges at the spreader bracket.

As reported by experienced J70 owners, the vertical crack in the bracket appears to the most common visible indication of damage to the spreaders and/or the spreader bracket.

Replacement J/70 Spreader Flange Bracket. Contact Ed Furry at Sail22 for advice on how to have this item installed. As the factory permanently installs this item using epoxy adhesive, it will require specialized equipment to remove without damaging the underlying spar. Not for the DIY'r.
